Improved WCM 2.0 for Mac Getting Closer!

Customers flocked to the pre-release download of the Wi-Fire Connection Manager 2.0 for Mac that we made available on November 9th.  Comments quickly came back that people who had experienced some problems with the prior version were now seeing much more stability in the connection.

We’ve continued making progress since then and the “limitations” we had mentioned in the Pre-Release Notes are mostly solved.

  • The issues associated with using WEP are now totally finalized
  • Issues with WPA with AES and WPA2 with TKIP+AES (using AES and CCMP synonymously) are now resolved.
  • The “null” data that was being pulled into signal strength, causing erratic behaviour of the horizontal bar graphs, was found and corrected.

WCM 2.0, when released, shows great promise in providing robust performance and a great user experience when used with the Wi-Fire, the long range Wi-Fi adapter of choice around the world.

We also provided this image of the user interface (click once on the below image to enlarge) with that pre-release announcement:

Keep in mind that this GUI will be used mostly where you are not familiar with the access points in the area.  It provides valuable information concerning security, signal strength and link quality.  In these situations, you may also need to enter a pass phrase and even double check it before clicking “Connect”.

But when you simply return to your home or work network, or any other “Preferred Network” or “Remembered Network”, you won’t necessarily look at the above GUI.  hField will be providing you a menu extra (click once on the below image to enlarge) which will drop down from an hField icon near your current Airport icon in the upper right.

So, In familiar territory, just click on the icon for the drop down menu, find the network with which you want to connect, and click – no different then the way you use Airport now!

Look for more coming announcements about Wi-Fire Connection Manager 2.0 for Mac.
